Detroit News Building

For nearly 100 years, the 615 Lafayette building, originally designed by architect Albert Kahn, was home to some of Detroit’s greatest journalism as the Detroit News Building. In keeping within the historical framework, many of the interior architectural elements were restored and custom light fixtures were recreated to replicate fixtures that were originally home to the lobby.

The furniture and accessories allowed for a more contemporary take on history through the use of sleek shapes and modern palettes while still utilizing traditional materials. The artwork, created by local artist Leon Dickey, serves as a subtle nod to the building’s roots. Visitors and tenants can experience the rich history of this building through the lens of the present.
