Our People

Our team is deeply passionate about design and we believe that diversity sparks innovation.

The Pophouse team is comprised of people from diverse backgrounds with a broad range of design expertise, including interior, industrial, and environmental graphic designers, materials specialists, strategists, and project managers.

We never stop learning and growing. Our curiosity leads us to continuously challenge and elevate our skills through travel, visiting art venues, coursework, industry events and conferences. We also like to paint in the park, do yoga, bring our dogs to work and have the occasional happy hour in Campus Martius on a sunny summer day.

As avid Detroiters, we are focused on the city’s growth and development through organizations like City Year, Empowerment Plan and Design 139. We participate in Design Core, CREW, IIDA and AIA. We also open our doors to school and community groups, professional organizations and local entrepreneurs to highlight the opportunity for creative careers and celebrate the importance of inclusive design.

As a writer, turned creative leader, turned leader of a design studio, I feel incredibly privileged to work in a field where we have the ability to improve the way people work, live, and interact with their environment. For me, design is all about understanding people, solving problems, and leaving a lasting positive impact, one space at a time.

As designers, the environments we create matter immensely—they shape who we are, how we feel, and how we interact with others. Design has always been a part of who I am and how I approach the world around me—the chance to change for the better.

Danae Hoerauf

Associate Interior Designer
Why design?

Being born and raised in Detroit, I saw firsthand how unsupportive our housing and building development was for our community. The systematic disservice that this city has experienced is disturbing. Our "places", whether it be home, the office, school, small business, affects our everyday being. Many of Detroit's "places" were/are either blighted or designed without the community in mind. Knowing that I had the full creative and informed design potential to be a part of the positive change that would stay with this city for years, I honestly felt like I had no choice. I couldn't live/work/play here and not DO anything to help support the growth of this city.

Favorite project?

City Year 2019 was such a treat to work on. As a design team, we were incredibly thoughtful in our design process and made sure to have the Burns Middle School family be part of our ideation. It was great to have everyone on the team be involved, whether through volunteering their design time or donating books/supplies for the students. When the room was finally revealed, the excitement and joy on the students’ faces was the greatest reward. We did one hell of a job.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Miranda Konja

Graphic Designer
Why design?

I chose graphic design because I didn't want to choose. Through design, I'm able to combine all of my interests and learn about more things than I could ever imagine.

What is your work philosophy?

Learn the rules so you can break them. Everyone knows I love rules, but nothing is better than using your own intuition to expand a brand for the better.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Monica Pace

NCIDQ, LEED AP ID+CSenior Interior Designer
Why design?

Because we, as designers, have the ability to create unique physical environments conceived largely by information, inspiration and imagination. Seeing a space come to fruition after months or years of planning is an incredibly rewarding experience.

Favorite core value?

Fearless. It's an important reminder to constantly push outside of your comfort zone and to not be afraid to fail. Even a failure is worthy of the educational experience gained.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Lauren DeKane

Associate Project Manager
Why design?

The feeling you get when you walk into a space and it just feels "right"— it emits this emotion and feeling and it's intoxicating. I love the intersection between people and the places they encounter, and I want everyone to be able to experience joy in the places they live and work.

What is your work philosophy?

Work smarter, not harder. Design, in the context of production and client management, can be a lot to juggle. I strive to find ways for my team to work smart and efficient for the best outcome possible. With a little fun along the way!

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Nicole Pelton

Senior Furniture Specialist
Why design?

Design allows me to utilize both my analytical and creative sides, while helping improve the lives of others by solving real-world problems.

Favorite core value?

Curious. Successful design solutions require challenging the status quo, along with an element of adventure, inspiration, and inquisitiveness. When facing a design challenge, it's important to ask questions and never to assume that something is "right" just because it's been done a certain way in the past.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Makyle Welke

Why design?

To have a positive impact on the way people experience spaces.

What is your work philosophy?

Work smarter not harder.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Savannah Raus-Wuth

NCIDQ, LEED AP ID+CInterior Designer
Why design?

Design is the perfect marriage of methodical and imaginative thinking translated to a tangible medium. I have the opportunity of having a brain that refuses to allow the left or right to be dominant and instead work together which allows me to find peace and joy in the methodical and imaginative balance that is design.

Favorite core value?

Curious. The moment we stop being curious is the moment growth halts. Allowing curiosity to be present creates a vessel for wonder and beauty to flourish in our daily lives. This also creates the capacity for growth, learning, and synthesizing atypical ways to improve design professionally and personally.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

I have been fascinated with the impact of physical space on human behavior and interaction for as long as I can remember. Some of my first memories are of rearranging furniture in my childhood home and making floor plans with my LEGOs. As I continue to experience the influence of design in all aspects of life my intrigue and love for the topic grows.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Brandon Bartel

Senior Environmental Graphic Designer
Why design?

From an early age I have always had a strong connection and passion for art and design. As a professional, I enjoy the challenge of working through large scale projects and creating memorable art pieces for clients that transform their space and impact the culture and team members

What is your work philosophy?

Holding oneself to high standards, seeing all details through to the end, and being open to feedback. I enjoy the challenge of the entire design process: Creating a narrative with my client, understanding the ‘why’; developing the idea from sketch to installation. Creating meaningful installations that inspire team members is extremely rewarding.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Natalie DePerro

Curious. Inspiration drives our creativity. Finding better ways to do our craft will make Pophouse the best in the industry.

Why design?

Being a rock star isn't a very stable career, so being a designer is the next best thing.

Favorite core value?

Fearless. I think it's always important to be unafraid to try new methods, pursue that crazy idea, and to always be evolving.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Abby Kieltyka

Senior Purchasing Specialist
Why design?

I have always been creative and appreciated architecture and design, but I really fell in love with the process and business side of interior design after pursuing an interior design degree and working in the field for several years. I found my niche in purchasing, but still get to be around the creative process and contribute to beautiful projects, so it's the best of both worlds.

What is your work philosophy?

Embracing the challenge of finding a solution when we run into an issue on a project. I enjoy the rush of multi-tasking to meet deadlines and ensuring everything is accurate which requires great attention to detail.

Pophouse | Detroit Interior Design Firm

Colleen Hosler
